Mentors and those who work with beginning teachers sometimes find the need to have difficult conversations concerning classroom management, instructional strategies, content, and assessment. Often, these are tough conversations to approach when trying to protect fragile relationships with new teachers. This professional development opportunity will allow mentors to learn coaching strategies to strengthen the support (and delivery of that support) offered to beginning teachers.

By the end of this session, participants will have had the opportunity to:
  • Determine effective coaching strategies to use with their mentee;

  • Identify strategies or tips to establish and maintain a healthy mentor/mentee relationship;

  • Discuss and practice effective communication techniques and listening skills; and

  • Examine potential methods for resolving situations associated with beginning teachers
